About
Troop 457
Troop 457 is sponsored by
Greenwood Community Church located at Belleview and Holly Streets in Greenwood Village,
Colorado. Troop 457 is self-governed and self-supported and is incorporated
with the State of Colorado as a non-profit corporation.. The troop was
organized and began meeting in 1962. It met for the first 40 years at
Greenwood Elementary School, moving to Greenwood Community Church in 2003.
Troop 457 meets at Greenwood Community Church on Tuesday nights
from 7:00 to 8:30pm each week except during public or school holidays. During summer months, meetings are held on the
Church grounds, at other designated locations, or replaced with summer activities.
Each year the Troop attends summer camp. In 2001 we went to Camp Buffalo Bill at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. In 2002 we attended Camp Medicine Mountain at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota. In 2003 we went to Camp K-M at Lewistown, Montana. We are attending Camp Maluhia, Maui, Hawaii.
Each year we also send a crew to a High Adventure Base. In 2000 we sent a crew to the Grand Tetons for 5 days of backpacking. for In 2001 we sent a crew to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for 10 days of backpacking. In 2002 we sent a crew to Florida Sea Base in the Florida Keys where they sailed a 40 foot sail boat for 5 days and nights. In 2003 our crew canoed on the National Historic portion of the Missouri River in Montana -- the last unchanged portion of the Missouri upon which Lewis & Clark traveled. We also sent two crews to Philmont Scout Ranch.
The Troop earns the funds to attend camp and to buy equipment and travel by selling pumpkins in October and by selling holiday wreaths in December each year.
The Troop is run by the Patrol Leader's Council and the Senior Patrol Leader. As a boy-run Troop, Troop 457 camps every month of the year, attends summer camp every year, and sends crews on high adventure trips every year. The Scouts also plan outings such as a trip to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and an annual ski trip.
Troop 457 has more than 80 Eagle Scouts on its rolls.
