Troop 320 has over forty boy scouts and most of them are homeschooled. In fact, Troop 320 is one of the largest homeschool troops in the Sam Houston Area Council. We meet at Faith West Church on Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. in Katy, Texas.
Troop 320 began with about ten boys in 1996. We started out with two patrols: the Atomic Ants and the Cobras. But with more boys rushing in from Pack 164 (a homeschool pack), the troop began to grow rapidly. The troop soon grew to twenty-five boys. Currently the troop size ranges between 35 and 45.
The adventurous troop wanted to explore. We visited a summer camp outside of the Sam Houston Area Council, Lost Pines near Austin. As the troop grew even larger, the troop experienced its first out-of-state campout; it was a summer camp in Arkansas named Camp Orr in 2000. During Tropical Storm Allison, Scouts from Troop 320 helped a flooded hospital during Hurricane Allison. Troop 320 has visited several summer camps, including El Rancho Cima, Buffalo Trails and Camp Cherokee. We have participated in High Adventure at the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota.
Troop 320 is a boy-led troop, and a high percentage of its boys make the rank of Eagle. Now, Troop 320 is heading into a new year with new adventures waiting just over the horizon.
